This "cave" in the face of Rainbow Glacier seems to be a relatively new feature in the ice. Comments from the observant community are welcome and encouraged.
Pretty exciting day. First day up the Chilkoot River with the good company of Tracy Spring, and saw mama eagle sitting in the nest across from the Chilkoot Lodge. Did not expect to see this so early, and a welcome opportunity to try out the new D850.
Morning's bright promise. We are enjoying a few welcome days of stellar spring weather.
Another eagle gearing to the nest. On the Chilkoot River, across from Deer Rock. The eagle was in the nest when I pulled up, but played me when I got the camera set up. Both nests on the Chilkoot are active again this year.
Common mergansers. The happy couple is out and about, Dad dressed up in his seasonal fancies for a night out on the Left Banke.
A lot of eagle activity in front of our house this morning at low tide. This scoundrel landed to a perch near the deck.
I am smiling!
The scoters are busy running up and down, looking for goodies. We are all looking for the hooligan .. where are they? Sea lions want to know. Scoters are a great example of collective consciousness. I am not sure there is anything one could call an alpha-scoter.
Scoters in flight
Game on! Hooligan are running in Lutak, and action was happening at the mouth of the Chilkoot River as the tide rose. Nothing up the river yet.

Hiking up God's Alley at Pyramid Harbor, Haines, Alaska. Low water this time of year made hiking up the river bed possible.
Quiet waters on Pyramid Harbor on the Chilkat Inlet near Haines, Alaska. We are surrounded by seals and sea lions and gulls and eagles, all loving the long awaited start of the hooligan run
The hooligan run: Bringing home the prize. My observation today was these gulls would drop their prize four or more times along the way. Must be a slippery little fish. Oily much?
